What needs does CóMo Estás meet?
Spanish is the second most spoken language in the country. We also know children are naturally wired to absorb new languages at a young age, particularly if it is offered in an engaging, immersive environment. Unlike traditional language classes, our program creates a full immersion experience, allowing children to think, play, and communicate in Spanish through interactive activities, storytelling, music, and hands-on learning. This approach helps them develop authentic pronunciation, a deeper understanding of the language through cultural immersion, and cognitive benefits that will last a lifetime.
Despite the overwhelming evidence supporting early language immersion, Spanish language enrichment programs for young children in Columbia are very limited. We are excited to help fill this gap, giving local children an opportunity to build bilingual skills that will set them apart in an increasingly global world.
Love of language and respect for culture
Our goal isn’t just fluency—though that’s certainly possible with continued learning. What we aim to spark is a love for language itself, by immersing children in meaningful experiences that help them understand and appreciate Spanish and the rich cultures it connects to.
We draw on our backgrounds as anthropologists (scientists who study people!) and educators to offer an inclusive, play-based environment where all children can thrive.
Place-based education
Our immersive Spanish classes take place both indoors and outdoors, combining the structure of a classroom with the freedom and creativity of nature-based play.
Outdoor time gives children space to move, explore, and engage with Spanish in real-world ways—through games, storytelling, scavenger hunts, and nature-inspired activities. Research shows that learning in nature supports focus, creativity, and emotional well-being.
By blending indoor and outdoor learning, we create a joyful, dynamic environment where Spanish comes to life through movement, imagination, and connection.
